Using a Farmhouse Design for Fable Friends

Stampin' Up! Fable Friends Farmhouse Design Card by Just Stamp

Chances are you grew up with the tale of Peter Rabbit, the naughty bunny who ignored his mother’s warning to stay out of Mr. McGregor’s garden. I’m a fan.

I’m also a fan of the comfy, cozy and full of charm farmhouse decorating style. I have a super cute card to share that combines both of these favorites. With just the Well Written happy, this hand-made notecard will suite your obligation, occasion or opportunity to connect with friends and family. Meaning: you can use it for a thank you, birthday or “hey, what’s up?” snail mail hand-written note.

Creating the farmhouse style is easy. Of course, the star of the card is the sweet rabbit from Fable Friends, a 9-piece Cling stamp set. I stamped using Smokey Slate on smooth Whisper White and colored using Watercolor Pencils and a Blender Pen.

Next, is the Buffalo Check background stamp. I stamped Whisper White cardstock twice in neutral Basic Gray using the Stamparatus to get a perfect inking. The soft gray neutral keeps the background pattern softly in the background. That’s what I love about stamping your own background — you have total creative control. For a slightly different look, I also created this card design using Balmy Blue to match the rabbit’s little jacket. Both work perfectly.

Farmhouse style thrives with the small details. Take the peek of Wood Texture 6 x 6 Designer Series Paper behind the Basic Black frame. Greenery stamped in Soft Seafoam using the simple blades from the Sale-a-Bration Home to Roost accessorize the layers and frame the rabbit. Both the small peek behind the Polaroid-style frame and the lattice were cropped using the now-unavailable Rose Trellis Thinlits. No worries. A soft doily or other thinlit clipping could easily sub for the lattice. A Linen Thread bow adds more texture wrapped around the photo backdrop. Finally, one soft flower from Climbing Roses adds another dose of nature.

Can you see the canvas texture of the rabbit snapshot? I texturized the paper using the Subtle Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. First pass, I placed the stamped and watercolored image vertically. For the second pass, I rotated the image 90 degrees. The result is “canvas” texture for the “watercolor artwork.”

Having the basic supplies of stamps, paper and ink with some special accents makes the farmhouse design with the naughty little rabbit work as a perfect Multi- Occasion card. Here’s one last peek.

Three Die Cut Sets For Your Crafting Tool Kit

By | February 25, 2019

Stampin' Up! Large Letters with Fable Friends | Just Stamp

Do you find it challenging to decide which tools and supplies you must have as a cardmaker? With the infinite choices offered, I think it is possible to have too many choices.

The tools I’m sharing today are definitely three die cut sets every cardmaker and sender should have. They can be combined with the stamp set du jour to create handmade greetings for every obligation, occasion or opportunity — all the reasons we create and send cards.

Large Letter Framelits

It’s a pricey set. While the price might push it down the Wish List ahead of smaller sets with smaller price tags, this alphabet set should be on your “Need,” not “Want” list. The beautiful, timeless font is the perfect size for cards, scrapbook pages and packaging. The 37-piece set is an investment that you will never regret buying. I can honestly say that of EVERY alphabet set I own, despite the hesitation to place them on my purchase orders on account of the price.

Well Written Framelits Dies

Creating a handmade card for every obligation, occasion or opportunity is made easier when you own a set of dies with just about any sentiment. The scripty font pairs beautifully with Large Letters to say what needs to be said on your greeting card. Joy, gratitude, sorrow or “just because” are kindly expressed with heartfelt craftiness.

Take a look. I paired the alphabet with the greeting and added the adorable bunny from the Beatrix Potter-esque stamp set Fable Friends to craft a sweet Baby card. The yellow gingham for the letters and lace texture in the background add softness without overpowering the design. One itty bitty bow finishes off the card.

Celebrate You Thinlits

A different greeting die cut set for celebration cards is Celebrate You Thinlits. This 3-die set is the epitome of “good things do come in small packages.” I love the three precise words and the different fonts. Paired with the Large Letter alphabet, it’s easy to bring cheer via snail mail.

Take a peek. I paired the alphabet and greeting with the home decor from Country Home and Tin Tile Dynamic Embossing Folder for country charm ala Fixer Upper.

There they are. Three die cut sets that are staples for every craft cupboard. Stamp sets and art styles will come and go, but these timeless letters and greetings will never wither.

Tutorial: How to Create a Bold Background for Butterfly Beauty Thinlits Dies

By | February 14, 2019

Just Stamp | Beauty Abounds Bundle | Wow! Background

The new Beauty Abounds Bundle is stunning. The 13-piece Cling stamp set combines both pretty images AND pretty sentiments using the trendy mixed font design.

The show-stopper, however, is the 20(!) piece Butterfly Beauty Thinlits Dies set. There are two main thinlits that feature a kaleidoscope or swarm of five butterflies. They were designed to be layered, and there’s a multitude of ways to layer. You can even snip them apart.

Included are also smaller, single butterflies in multiples. Love this! Cutting multiples of the same die cut simultaneously means fewer passes through the Big Shot.

I’m happy to share that I’m thrilled with this beautiful set, and I’m thrilled with the projects that I created using this bundle.

Just Stamp | Beauty Abounds w:3-Step Background

The bold, vibrant colors create a smashing background for the butterfly beauties. I love each color scheme I attempted, even the one (and I won’t reveal which) I didn’t care for as I was creating. I was ready to chuck it early on, but I persevered and wound up with a keeper.

I’ve created a PDF Tutorial to walk you through the techniques to make the bold, colorful background. Click here to learn more.

Envelope Punch Board + All My Love Suite for a Lovely Valentines Card

By | January 21, 2019

Just Stamp | Stampin' Up! Forever Lovely Valentines Pocket Card

I bought the Stampin’ Up Envelope Punch Board when it was first introduced several years ago. I immediately fell for the persuasive talks and project samples. Once it arrived on my door step, it was quickly shelved in my craft room.

Perhaps I’ve blown off the dust a couple of times over the years, but I’ve never given it a genuine chance to bring me joy. All the numbers on the board intimidate me.

I finally got the inspiration I needed to start scoring, punching and rotating my way to a joyful project. I saw a pretty fancy fold card featuring the Forever Lovely and Lovely Flowers Edgelits Dies at the Stampin’ Up! convention in Orlando.

I determined to nix the fancy fold and put the Envelope Punch Board to work to create an envelope pocket card for Valentines Day. I wish I had mustered my courage sooner, because the chart is actually easy to follow. Creating the envelope is just as easy. Align. Punch. Score. Rotate. Repeat.

The Envelope Punch Board is an awesome tool! I chose to make an envelope to fit a  3.5″ x 5″ card. Conveniently, the finished envelope and insert slip into a standard medium envelope for mailing.

All My Love Suite

For Valentines Day and beyond, the All My Love Suite is perfect. The photopolymer stamp set Forever Lovely includes two-step stamps to create a floral spray that can be border cut with the coordinating dies, Lovely Flowers. Fluttering hearts and beautiful sentiments in complementary script and serif fonts complete the 13-piece stamp set.

Silly Christmas Card with So Santa and Stampin’ Blends – Part 2

By | December 5, 2018

Just Stamp | So Santa Surfer

It’s the return of the adorable stamp set with no coordinating framelits, So Santa, for another Silly Christmas Card with So Santa and Stampin’ Blends.  Today I present a silly surfer Santa in a multi-purpose Christmas card and gift card holder in one.

Yes, you can create special cards without fancy image-cutting framelits and thinlets. Surfer Santa was colored with an easy watercolor technique and cropped using one of my favorite crafting tools, Stitched Shapes Framelits, to make a delightful beachy card front. No silhouette-cutting required.

To created the card front, Surfer Santa was stamped with the help of the amazing positioning tool, the Stamparatus. First Santa was stamped using Gray Granite followed with another inking in VersaMark. This process prepared the image for Clear Embossing Powder, which was heat set. The heat embossing technique helps keep the watercoloring from creeping into unwanted areas.

So Santa and his surfboard were colored using Stampin’ Blends, while the sand and sky were colored using an Aqua Painter dipped in Pool Party ink.

Silly Christmas Card with So Santa and Stampin’ Blends – Part 1

By | December 4, 2018

Just Stamp | So Santa on a Scooter

Holy smoke! Is it really December? Only 21 days ’til Christmas.

Today we’re exploring the wonderful world of stamping with a stamp set sans coordinating framelits.

Be honest. As you study the pages of stunning projects in a Stampin’ Up! catalog, do you flip right past stamps that don’t have coordinating framelits or thinlets?

Shame, shame. I hope not, but I know many stampers do. It’s a pity because one of the most adorable sets in the holiday catalog falls into that category. So Santa is a set of 10 stamps with three silly Santa caricatures and the perfect punny sentiments to complete fun Christmas cards. It even includes a couple of accent stamps.

There are so many ways to steer your designs; you won’t even miss silhouette-cutting the images. No coordinating framelits are needed.

Stampin' Up! So Santa

Today in Part 1, I’m showing a bright Christmas red card with a hint of tartan plaid to prop jolly Santa as he delivers toys on his fuel efficient motor scooter. I’m calling it the Silly Christmas Card with So Santa and Stampin’ Blends.

Just Stamp | So Santa Scooter Zoom

Santa has been stamped using a Memento ink pad and cropped using the Stitched Shapes Framelits. To color this and the other two Santa images, Stampin’ Blends are the best. Hands. Down. Even the beginning stamper can produce a piece of art.

Ready for Autumn Gatherings? Here’s a Happy Harvest Blessings Card

By | October 21, 2018

Just Stamp | Country Home Autumn Blessings Zoom

I’m no farmer, and I won’t be harvesting any crops this year, but I’ll still celebrate Thanksgiving this November 22. No matter how big or small the feast, no matter how many friends and family gather, turkey or no turkey — gratitude and blessings are the order of the day.

Since the gatherings seem to be shrinking in my household every year, sending hand-crafted greetings seems apropos. It’s a great way to tell someone they’re in my thoughts despite their absence at the table.

Stampin’ Up!’s Country Home 14-piece stamp set has all the trendy farmhouse elements and sweet sentiments one needs to create kind greeting cards or photo album pages. Pair it with the rich fall colors and designs of the Country Lane Designer Series Paper and create away. I used this card to jump start my creativity.Stampin' Up! Country Home

Stampin' Up! Country Lane Designer Series Paper

Here’s What I Did to Make a Happy Harvest Blessings Card

Create a 5 1/2 x 4 1/4″ Mint Macaron card base using the Stampin’ Trimmer to cut and score. Cut a piece of  Crumb Cake cardstock to 5 x 3 /3/4″. Ink the raised side of the Pinewood Planks Embossing Folder with the Crumb Cake Ink Pad and emboss the card stock using the Big Shot. Adhere to the card base using Multi-Purpose Glue.

Trim a 1 x 5″ piece of the Early Espresso wood print DSP and a 2 x 4″ piece of the Mint Macaron/Whisper White cotton DSP. Adhere to the card base with Multi-Purpose Glue.

Using the Black Memento Pad stamp the cotton floral  and pitcher images on a 2 3/4 x 4″ piece of Whisper White cardstock. Crop using the second largest of the ovals from the Layering Ovals Framelits Dies and the Big Shot. Add color using the Light Crumb Cake, Light Blackberry Bliss, Light Pool Party and Light Blackberry Bliss Stampin’ Blends. Adhere using Multi-Purpose Glue.

Stamp the pitcher on Galvanized Metallic Paper. Hand-snip the pitcher without the handle and adhere using a Stampin’ Dimensional.

Stamp the sentiment on to a piece of Mint Macaron in Early Espresso ink. Trim and adhere using one Stampin’ Dimensional on the right and Multi-Purpose Glue on the left.

Embellish with a small bow tied using 3/16″ Braided Linen Thread.
